This week I have struggled with the SMART Board Clickers. They were once called SENTEO and were renamed SMART Response.
After trying to use the clickers software both with my Windows 7 lap top and the lab's XP PCs, I realized that nothing was working and called the SMART Technologies technical support and I was surprised to find out that those clickers we have are not compatible with the newest versions of the SMART Board software, so the problem was not only with the Windows platform but with their own software.
In order for the clickers to work, we would have to downgrade the SMART Notebook software to the 9.6 version, we use 10.6 now.
As to their new SMART Responses (they have five different types now), none of them are compatible with Windows 7 yet. It seems that SMART Technologies is a little behind when it comes to the compatibility of their products within and without their own system. This is an important issue to consider when purchasing a product. You don't want to buy from a company that does not take care of their compatibility issues. You don't want to buy an expensive piece of equipment that you may not be able to use in the short future. Technology is developing quickly and it demands more capacity to catch up from the part of manufacturers.
This another good comparison topic between SMART Board and Promethean. What do you think about this subject?

It is kind of rediculous to downgrade the SMART to use the clicker. And it is a serious problem that the Smart is not compatable with Win 7 ...
ReplyDeleteI need to check whether Promethean is compatible with Win 7 since all the computers in our lab up be upgraded soon.
